A dream in doubt
Arizona residents Belen Sisa and Julio Zuniga have a lot at stake this election: they are among roughly 728,000 undocumented immigrants who are protected from deportation through an executive order signed by Barack Obama. But the next president could undo it, and GOP nominee Donald Trump has vowed to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. With their futures at stake, Sisa and Zuniga campaign for progressive politicians to defeat him.
For the Guardian, I reported, produced, shot and edited this documentary short, traveling to Arizona to follow Belen and Julio off-and-on over the course of 6 months. I started filming just before the 2016 Arizona primary in late March, and published a week before the November election.
Since Trump’s election, both Belen and Julio have continued to fight for immigration reform, and they are currently campaigning for congress to pass the DREAM act, which would allow undocumented minors to continue living and working in the United States without fear of deportation.
